“Surpassed all my expectations”

“When I first started training at Studio 2000 my only goals were to get fit and to grow my confidence. What I eventually achieved surpassed all my expectations, achieving levels of fitness I never thought possible, feeling more confident than I’d ever felt in my life and then putting myself through the ultimate test and fighting competitively.

“But Studio 2000 provides so much more than that. Studio 2000 provides life balance, a sense of well-being, motivation, inspiration, and discipline. It’s fun, sociable, and Studio 2000 becomes a family, providing encouragement and a feeling of belonging. Studio 2000 is versatile and caters for whatever your individual goals are and allows you to reach whatever levels you feel are right for you. Whether you’re just looking to stay fit and improve your body through bag work and core exercise, or to master the intricate techniques of Muay Thai, or whether you’re looking to push yourself to the limit and become a fighter, Studio 2000 will encourage and support you towards all your goals in a positive, warm, and welcoming environment. Trust me, if you can think it, you can dream it, and if you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

“I have lost weight and made new friends”

“I started training at studio 2000 in March 2010 and it was the best decision I made, not only for my health but my mind too. In March 2010, I weighed 17stone 3lbs and struggled even going up the stairs. I realised something had to change. With my confidence at an all-time low and my weight at an all-time high a work colleague suggested Muay Thai. Having been a lifelong fan of martial arts I decided to give it a go.

The hardest thing to do was step through the front door but I’m glad I did because everything after that, although hard, has been very rewarding. I have lost weight and made new friends and I have renewed confidence (which I severely lacked when I was bigger). My weight has dropped to under 11 stone and is still falling!”

“Completely changed my life”

“In 2001, at age 11, I was a quiet, shy boy with no confidence or self-esteem. I’d just started secondary school and was already being bullied by a couple of lads in my class. Outside school I was content to stay indoors all day, playing PlayStation, eating junk food and generally being anti-social.

One day my parents dragged me, kicking and screaming, to Studio 2000. They’d spoken to Sai about what was going on and he’d suggested I come down and try it out. Although being away from a games console for an hour nearly killed me, I enjoyed the class and decided to give it a go.
It is now over 12 years since I started at Studio 2000 and in that time I have become a qualified instructor, a professional fighter and a Midland Area champion.

Studio 2000 has given me so much over the years. It started out as just a place to escape but has become a second home. The confidence training here has given me has completely changed my life; not only am I now an instructor and a fighter, I also have a full time job as a firefighter in Derbyshire.”

“Correct, traditional and best way possible”

“For me the thing that stands out at Studio 2000 is the world class tuition and syllabus. It is a professional and proper Muay Thai gym, which teaches the complete syllabus as it should be taught. When I moved to Derby I’d seen some of the Studio 2000 fighters at various shows and had heard of the reputation of the gym, so it was a no brainer to get down to Sai’s and sign up there and then because I wanted to learn from the best. For me there’s no point spending time and money learning at bad gyms with bad instructors because it’s a waste of time and dangerous.

From 2012 to 2013 I lived and trained in Thailand at various professional camps and I can honestly say the Studio 2000 syllabus allowed me to adapt to any camp I trained at and comfortably fight with any person put in front me. This is testament to the technical, traditional and physical training at Studio 2000.

From embarking on a journey just to get fit, I can’t quite believe the experiences, friends and knowledge I have gained to get to where I am today. For me this is the ultimate martial art and Studio 2000 is one of a very few clubs in the UK where you can learn the art form in the correct, traditional and best way possible in a full-time facility dedicated to the art. Whatever your goal, whether it’s to get fit or become a champion you’ll be able to achieve that goal with Sai.”

“Mentally and physically stronger”

“What a difference five months makes! I was advised to take a break from Muay Thai in January 2012 due to being diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a form of arthritis. Throughout that year I gradually piled on the pounds, reaching an all-time high of 92kgs. This not only affected me psychologically but also physically and I entered a vicious cycle. In January 2013, I got back in touch with Sai Varley and he got me thinking in a more positive light and gave me something to aim for – a title fight in May 2013, something I’d always dreamed of but thought the opportunity had slipped through my fingers.

I went back to Studio 2000 and within days the weight started to drop off and my back and hips were loosening. With Sai’s encouragement and constant support from my fiancée, who I met through the gym, the weight continued to drop and I was becoming mentally and physically stronger. In May 2013 I was 70kgs and in peak condition for my title fight. Without Sai Varley and Studio 2000 I wouldn’t be the fighter I am today. He has not only seen my potential but also helped and supported me to reach it even when I couldn’t see the light. I couldn’t recommend Studio 2000 and Sai Varley enough. You will never find another club or individual like it.”
