Alan Whitton 3 Peak Climb for Lewis Mighty
Lewis Paul Mighty has been sadly diagnosed with stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma; a very rare form of cancer which mainly targets under fives. Lewis has only a 20% chance of survival however this can be great increased if £300,000 can be raised to take him to America for treatment. Alan and friends decided to complete the 3 Peak challenge in 24 hours as a way of helping Lewis and his family towards their goal. The 3 Peak challenge consisted of climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales all in 24 hours! Alan and friends started climbing Ben Nevis at 6am full of high spirits and energy, this took 4 and a half hours to climb from top to bottom. They then had a 7 and half hour drive to Scarfell Pike starting this climb at 6pm and making it back down by 9pm. Already tired Alan and friends set off for the final leg and started climbing Snowdon at 3am, reaching the summit just as the sun began to rise at 5am, the 24 hour time limit creeping closer by the minute. By now Alan only had 1 hour to make the decent! realizing this he decided to run down Snowdon in order to complete the challenge in 24 hours. Alan would like to thank everyone who has generously given money towards this great cause.

Studio 2000 silence Minotaurs

On Saturday 29th May 2010 at ExCeL in London, Muay Thai Premier League featured, in a fight put together by Dan Green (working with Rob Cox), none other than K1 Max superstar Buakaw Por Pramuk under Full Thai rules!
Buakaw Por Pramuk is undoubtedly the number one K1 Max and Thai superstar! Formerly two time Omnoi Stadium and Thailand national champion, he became a true worldwide superstar when he became the K-1 Max World Champion beating none other than John Wayne Parr, Takayuki Kohiruimaki and previous champion Masato in the finals.

Also on the bill was our very own Marc Sargeant (Studio 2000) vs Olly Watson (Minotaurs)
Marc coming off a loss in his last MSA show was looked on by many as the under dog in this fight.
The Marc that turned up on this MSA show was a different fighter with a point to prove....
Marc and his supporters from Studio 2000 Derby silenced the Minotaurs and their supporters with a unanimous decision win, Marc also showing a solid chin taking some heavy right hands from Olly during the fight. Many thanks to all who support Studio 2000 and Marc on this special day.

Happy Songkran

The Songkran festival is celebrated in Thailand as the traditional New Year's Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia.

The date of the festival was originally set by astrological calculation, but it is now fixed. If these days fall on a weekend, the missed days off are taken on the weekdays immediately following. If they fall in the middle of the week, many Thai take off from the previous Friday until the following Monday. Songkran falls in the hottest time of the year in Thailand, at the end of the dry season. Until 1888 the Thai New Year was the beginning of the year in Thailand; thereafter 1 April was used until 1940. 1 January is now the beginning of the year. The traditional Thai New Year has been a national holiday since then.

Songkran originally was celebrated only in the north of Thailand, and was probably brought there by the Burmese, who adapted it from the Indian Holi festival. It spread across Thailand in the mid 20th century and is now observed even in the far south. However, the most famous Songkran celebrations are still in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where it continues for six days and even longer. It has also become a party for foreigners and an additional reason for many to visit Thailand for immersion in another culture.

Boxing challenge will give charity a fighting chance

The owner of a boxing gym is preparing to take a hit for a struggling charity – by letting people fight him for cash.Sai Varley is inviting people to step into the ring and spar with him if they donate £5.The event is one of scores planned at an open day at Studio 2000 to raise money for the Aquabox Appeal. Members of the gym will also be skipping, doing press-ups and sit-ups for the Derbyshire charity, which sends water purification kits to victims of natural disasters, poverty and war.The open day will offer half price joining fee for new students and half price monthly's for members introducing new students to the Academy on the day.The open day, to which members of the public are invited, will take place on Sunday, January 24, from 12pm until 4pm.

Call Sai on 07977 229 901

The charity, run by Wirksworth Rotary Club, is struggling for cash, with donations at their lowest in seven years, and a recent disaster in Indonesia having almost wiped out their existing stock.
And the funding crisis comes at a time when the charity is looking to introduce revolutionary Aquaboxes which use improved technology.
That is why the Derby Telegraph has launched its Give Water, Give Life campaign, to help raise the £138,000 needed for the devices, which make dirty water safe to drink.
Sai, director of Studio 2000 – a specialist Muay Thai boxing gym – is backing the campaign. He said: "It's a great cause. We are happy to help."
At the open day, which will take place at the gym in Spa Lane, two firemen, Alan Whitton and Steven Clarke, will also be skipping for an hour in uniform to raise money.
The charity sends out two types of water purification boxes which use carbon filters and chlorine tablets. But now, a new method for purifying water has been devised, using micropore technology filters.
The charity wants £100,000 to buy the AquaFilters for 5,000 AquaFilter Family kits, as well as £30,000 to pay for 100 larger AquaFilter Community units, which provide water to small communities, cottage hospitals and schools. They also need £8,000 to pay for ground rent to store them.
They have joined forces with the Derby Telegraph in appealing for help to raise cash for the filters, which it hopes to have by April.
David Haspel, trustee of the charity, said: "It is great to hear that people are getting behind us like this, and we are really grateful to Sai and everyone at the gym.
"At times of disaster, donations go up but we need to maintain stock throughout the year so the boxes are ready to go as soon as they are needed."
