Overeating can be a problem for many people as it can sabotage your diet. Resisting the temptations of a late night snack or eating serving sizes that are too large has proven to be an issue for those following a diet at one point or another. Here are a few tips to help you stop overeating;
Drink Plenty of Water
The great thing about water is that it does not have any calories in it. You can drink as much as you would like and not gain weight. If you are like most, you find yourself wanting to munch on some foods late at night or even throughout your day. This tactic helps out just about every day when you feel like eating more than your daily macronutrient requirement. Simply drink water and your hunger cravings should begin to go away.
Next time you feel hungry drink some water if the hunger goes away it's not real hunger.
Include Fibers in Your Diet
One of the biggest secrets to combat overating is to include fibers in your diet. Eating foods such as green beans, broccoli or a salad are great choices that will allow you to prevent any overeating. The reason for this is because of a hormone known as cholecystokinin. Cholecystokinin is a hormone found in your intestines that when released sends a message to your brain allowing it to feel as if you have been fed. Try this tactics for your evening meals as it should definitely help you from overeating or attacking the kitchen for a late night snack.
Eat On A Regular Schedule
It is baffling how many people do not realize how important it is to eat on a regular basis. Not only will it allow you to decrease your body fat if you make the right food choices, but it will also prevent you from overeating. The reason for this is because your body begins to adjust to the timing of your meals. You will be able to control your cravings and the amount of food you put in your mouth much easier this way.
Stress & Emotions
Many people resort to overeating during times of stress and when they’re emotional. Take a look at when you overeat the most. Is it when the children misbehave? after a stressful workday? after a break-up or argument? This habit can add thousands of calories into our week (Remember 3,500 calories = a pound of body fat). So next time you turn to a pint of ice cream or a stack of cookies…go for a walk or a jog…exercise can clear our minds of stress without filling our stomachs!
Eating the wrong foods
Overeating is rarely associated with fruits and vegetables. When we think of overeating it’s usually those “heavy foods” like chips, crisps, cookies, cakes, chocolate bars, doughnuts, etc… These foods have very little water content and are usually very high in processed sugar, starches, and fat. These foods pack calories in like no other. And these foods are also some of the more enjoyable foods to eat. Save these for special occasions…and eat smaller portions. Once you get in the habit of having these treats less frequently, you’ll notice a drop in your calorie-intake…and on the scale, too!
Get A Good Night Sleep
Rest is always important. Regardless of whether you are trying to lose weight or just maintain a healthy lifestyle, getting the right amount of sleep is necessary. We may not realize it, but when we do not get enough sleep, we are more likely to get food cravings. Although eating something high in carbohydrates will give you a quick burst of energy, it will soon fade away and you will be back to square one in no time. In addition, if you are sleep deprived your glucose will not function as efficient. As a result, your immune system will begin to break down which means you are more susceptible to getting sick.
